Abstract:
A lesion mimic and senescence mutant, designated as lms1,was isolated from the tissue culture progeny of indica rice restorer line Minghui-86.lms1plants started to appear small brown spots on the leaves in elongation stage, and the spots gradually spreaded to whole leaves and sheaths. With the growth of the plants to heading stage,lms1displayed a senescent phenotype, whereas leaves, stems, and panicles dried obviously, resulting in whole plants′death.RT-PCR analysis revealed that the expression of pathogenesis-related genes PBZ1and PAL1 was induced in lms1leaf tissues.Genetic analysis suggested that the loci for the mutant phenotype was controlled by a single recessive gene.F2and F3 populations derived from a cross between 9311and lms1 were used for gene mapping, and the lms1locus was mapped close to the terminal region of the long arm of chromosome 11.
