Abstract: The keypoint to two line indica hybrid breeding is to successfully transfer PGMS genes directly or indirectly from Nongkeng 58s to indica varieties.An indica PGMS line,Mingguang 87s was newly obtained by crossing M 901s,a PGMS line derived from Nongkeng 58s which is highly stable sterility but lower outcrossing ability,with Jian 29s,a TGM line possesses high outcrossing performance.It became a completely male sterile under long day condition and restored to be fertile under short day condition.The critical temperature for fertility transformation is lower than 23 5℃.Under natural long day condition in summer,Mingguang 87s has a long (56 d ),complete (100%) and stable male sterility performance.In late autumn or winter (short day),its seed setting may reach as high as 74%.Type classification revealed that it belongs to indica subspecies.In addition,it possesses a favorable flowering performance and high combining ability.
