Abstract: Seedling nursery media were formulated on the basis of rotting theory and optimized by using Sawdust as its basic material.Air dried fowl manure and fermented pig manure were added for the organic nutrients.Effect of the mixes for cultivating pepper,cucumber and Chinese cabbage seedlings was studied.The resulting seedlings of the vegetables were healthy and similar to those nursed on the commercial grass carbon medium.However,the cost of the seedlings raised with the sawdust-based formulation was reduced by nearly 60%.A wide application to industrialize the vegetable seedling operation was seen possible with an additional benefit of conserving grass resource.
